Last Wednesday, October 12th, Pacific Community Ventures’ InSight team travelled to The California Endowment in Sacramento to present the main findings of their health care and small business report. Following the presentation, InSight’s Director, Ben Thornley, facilitated a thoughtful and engaged panel discussion.
Esteemed panelists, Terry Gardiner, VP of Policy and Strategy at Small Business Majority, and Linda Rose Koehler, President of the California Association of Health Underwriters, provided relevant insight into the current status of health care for small businesses. The majority of the discussion revolved around the role of the new online exchange and tax credit provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in enabling more small businesses to provide health insurance coverage to their employees.
The perspectives of other stakeholders also contributed to the discussion, as the audience included members of The California Healthcare Foundation, California State Rural Health Association, Kaiser Permanente, Health Access California and government officials from the California Department of Insurance and the California Assembly Committee on Health.
