The SF Chamber of Commerce recently released their 2013 Advocacy Agenda, which included their Path to Economic Success for the year. The forecast is good, with San Francisco’s employment numbers outpacing much of the nation and events such as America’s Cup and the opening of the new Exploratorium on the Embarcadero further boosting the local economy.
The Chamber’s Path to Economic Success has four parts:
Improve the business climate
- Business tax reforms
- Focus on tourism & hospitality to improve the visitor experience in San Francisco
- Improving transportation for residents and tourists alike
- Boosting small businesses with favorable public policies
Spur economic development
- Invest in infrastructure
- Develop the Downtown Community Benefits District to improve traffic flow, cleanliness and commerce in the city’s downtown core
- Encourage long-term planning
- Development of Mission Bay, Hunters Point Shipyard and Transbay
- Focus on attracting and retaining businesses in San Francisco
- Foster sporting events to boost San Francisco’s economy
Ensure good government
- Support initiatives to reform SF’s campaign finance and Ranked Choice Voting to ensure cost-efficient and democratic elections
- Encourage legislation review
- Support contracting city services
Secure the future
- Prepare San Francisco for earthquakes and other natural disasters
- Make long range investments in defending major local, regional and state infrastructure projects
- Encourage a green and clean economy
- nvest in schools and encourage partnerships that connect the private sector with the city’s public education system
- Support the creation of economic development fund to form joint ventures between public and private sectors to attract and retain business and promote neighborhood commercial activity
