Did you know that January is National Mentoring Month? NMM was created in 2002 by the Harvard School of Public Health and MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership and focuses national attention on the need for mentors, mainly focusing on the mentorship of children and youth. However, NMM’s goals are to:
- Raise awareness of mentoring in its various forms
- Recruit individuals to mentor, especially in programs that have waiting lists of young people
- Promote the rapid growth of mentoring by recruiting organizations to engage their constituents in mentoring
While NMM may focus on youth mentorship, they also acknowledge the importance of business mentorship and we sure are happy they do! Mentoring an entrepreneur ensures that small businesses get the resources they need to grow, leading to healthier local economies. Mentoring an entrepreneur allows you to donate your skills and expertise rather than money, and is often absolutely priceless, as we often hear from our entrepreneurs who work with a PCV Advisor. Also, mentoring an entrepreneur is good for your career – just like this article says!
So what are you waiting for? Become a mentor! Or maybe you’re a small business owner who needs a mentor to talk through some business challenges. Either way, we can help get you matched up in a mentorship relationship on www.BusinessAdvising.org!
Happy Mentorship Month!
