Benjamin Weiner worked for years as a graphic designer in San Francisco, but it wasn’t until he created a logo for Huf — a well-known skateboard brand by pro skater Keith “Huf” Hufnagel — that Benjamin got his big break. He became Huf’s lead designer, heading up a string of high-profile projects that resulted in limited-edition, highly-coveted items. He was so successful that he eventually went solo in 2007, releasing his own line of streetwear clothing under the name Benny Gold.
The company launched in twenty-five stores across the country, Japan, and the Netherlands. Additionally, Benny Gold opened as a retail store in San Francisco’s Mission District on 16th Street.
Since then, the company’s original staples of graphic t-shirts and hats has expanded to include sweatshirts, jackets, buttondown shirts, denim, and skateboard accessories. They’ve also participated in interesting collaborations with like-minded brands such as Pendleton, JanSport, Diamond Supply Co., and will be working with Miller High Life in 2016.
Benjamin prides himself on having built a company that creates jobs, and supports not only his family but his employees’ as well. Benny Gold’s lease for the San Francisco retail shop is ending. Incredibly, the company was presented with the opportunity to move to a larger space only one block away from its existing location to Valencia Street – a bustling corridor of restaurants and retail. After working with a PCV advisor, Benny Gold approached PCV for a loan to cover the buildout expenses of this space.
