David Ball worked for nearly a decade as a civil engineer, escaping each evening to his woodworking shop. What started as a hobby, eventually led to the creation of a butcher block that was so successful, David left his full time job to launch Jacob May Design in Oakland.
Dedicated to American-made wood products, David established relationships with domestic lumberyards who align with his values on environmental stewardship. His product line expanded to include furniture and tables. Soon, his work became known throughout the U.S. thanks to his pieces appearing in media outlets like the Wall Street Journal, Food and Wine, the San Francisco Chronicle, and Remodelista.
Jacob May’s sales have increased, its work is appearing in several showrooms, and they’ve just begun working with Heath Ceramics (a PCV-advised company) on a product entitled the Nomad Table, which can be easily broken down and re-assembled over the course of a lifetime. There is currently a waiting list for this product, and David came to PCV to secure capital to purchase equipment which will drastically increase his ability to produce, and to create new jobs.
