Carlos Cuellar has worked as a veterinarian for 35 years. In that time, he’s owned both Veterinary Clinics of the Bay Area (in Concord) and Adobe Pet Hospital (in Mill Valley). After running the businesses for over a decade, he sold the practices last year to move on to new things. Even after closing his clinics, working with animals has always continued to be a passion. At the start of 2019, Carlos decided to purchase Dog Dynasty – a dog grooming, boarding, and training company in Pleasanton.
The company was founded by Debbie Hudgens in 2014 when she left her job as a corporate tax accountant and chose to follow her passion of providing pet care for dogs. Dog Dynasty’s dog grooming includes hair styling, de-shedding, nail trims, and gland expression as well as ear cleaning and teeth brushing. Doggy daycare offers 8 hours of off-leash supervised care in a playful and safe environment. Dog boarding guests engage in the doggy daycare activities with expanded playtime and safe sleeping accommodations. Dog training offers specialized training including help with resolving aggression, guarding, or separation anxiety.
Debbie decided to sell the business so that she can retire and relocate to South Lake Tahoe. Debbie leaves behind a popular and growing company with four full-time and four part-time employees. Carlos plans to keep these employees and add two additional full-time and two part-time employees in the coming year. He also plans to increase marketing, add cat boarding, and transportation for animals to increase sales and profits.
Even though Carlos has a long history of running successful businesses, he still needed a hand in securing the funding to work with Debbie and purchase the company. He came to Pacific Community Ventures, and we were happy to help! We’re excited to work with him to grow Dog Dynasty and create new jobs.
