Welcome back to Roundtable Spotlight, our newest blog series that highlights the PCV-advised companies who visit our offices for Strategy Roundtable sessions. These sessions allow entrepreneurs to brainstorm with a group of our expert advisors to talk about any current questions or issues they have concerning their business. Last week we had the pleasure of sitting down with the Flora Grubb Gardens team to discuss what they’re working on in their Bayview headquarters.

Flora Grubb Gardens has an enthusiastic and enviable following, which is apparent all over the social media radar. There are hundreds upon hundreds of Flora Grubb “pins” on Pinterest, over 6,500 followers on Facebook and a lively Twitter feed that keeps customers engaged with photos, community events and Flora’s personal thoughts and inspirations. In addition to the beautiful space in the Bayview that serves up Ritual Coffee daily, Flora Grubb offers garden consultation services and has an online store where customers can buy gifts and plants. Check out some of Flora Grubb’s newsletter archives – they inspired me to try my hand at doing some planting in my teeny tiny San Francisco backyard this weekend!

Flora has been involved with PCV for many years and we’re always excited to learn about what Flora Grubb Gardens is up to. Flora had some great PR and marketing questions for our panel of advisors, and it was immediately obvious that it was going to be a great session. The conversation was among the liveliest I’ve ever seen at a Strategy Roundtable session and I truly learned so much by listening in on this session. Some great advice that I heard was that it’s important for an entrepreneur to test their efforts when moving in a new direction to ensure that they are getting their desired results. In this case, the question was around marketing, but it can apply to any facet of a small business. By tracking small changes or implementations, an entrepreneur can be sure that the efforts will pay off in terms of time and money invested. Try a few different things and see what works best – then move forward with the change that got the best results!
