Humanity United
Services: Impact Investing Strategy / Impact Measurement, Management & Evaluation
Client Type: Foundation / Impact Fund
Geography: International
The Objective
Pacific Community Ventures was brought on to help Humanity United develop a social impact evaluation framework and strategy for an impact investing initiative focused on reducing labor exploitation through investments in supply chain solutions.
The Approach
Pacific Community Ventures conducted desk research and interviews with startup companies developing supply chain solutions, human rights nonprofits and evaluation experts to clarify the various types of impact the initiative would support as well as ways to embed social impact monitoring and evaluation into existing operations.
Using primary research and a collaborative feedback process with Humanity United, we developed a framework to evaluate the expected impact of potential investees, impacts associated with specific business categories, as well as the ongoing impact of the investment portfolio.
The Results
We provided Humanity United with a robust set of metrics and frameworks to measure the impact of their investment portfolio, ensuring their investments align with the organization’s mission and that Humanity United can track social performance over time.
As of mid 2017, Humanity United successfully attracted millions in support of this initiative and made its first investment in Provenance, which uses blockchain technology to track products along global supply chains.
