Climate Fellow, Good Jobs Innovation Lab
Position Type: Part-Time (up to 30 hours) Fellow – Independent Contractor
Reports To: Chief Impact Officer
Location: Oakland, CA area preferred (PCV has office space in Downtown Oakland. This job can be largely remote, with the expectation that the team will intentionally get together several times a month to collaborate.)
Salary: $40 – $60 per hour, contingent on experience

About PCV
Pacific Community Ventures, PCV, is a nonprofit, mission-driven community development lender (CDFI) addressing racial and gender wealth gaps through the power of a Good Job. For the last 25 years PCV has supported small business entrepreneurs and their communities in the fight for economic, racial, and gender justice. We work side-by-side with small business leaders through our unique integrated model: combining Restorative Capital and Pro Bono Business Advising with our Good Jobs Innovation Lab that propels thriving communities with equitable jobs, and uplifts and amplifies their voices and needs through research and policy advocacy. In April 2024, we launched our climate justice mobilization fund. 92% of PCV’s loan capital supported women and/or BIPOC-owned businesses, and 98% supported small businesses located in economically distressed areas.
Core Responsibilities
You may or may not undertake every aspect of each project:
- Develop impact measurement and compliance protocols for evaluating GHG reduction and community economic benefits for GGRF and related funding opportunities.
- Support the PCV’s data analytics team in developing and applying predictive models that support efficient and effective fund deployment to maximize climate and economic benefits in Justice40 Communities.
- Support Chief Impact Officer in evaluating GHG Accounting Strategies for PCV’s overall portfolio.
- Analyze Climate Justice Mobilization Fund portfolio data with an eye toward recommending loan product solutions, as well as origination, deployment and partnership strategies to maximize impact.
- Document Fund learnings and performance in alignment with the Fund Impact Thesis and learning questions.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- 3+ years of work experience in applied research, impact management, or related role, including internships.
- Experience with evaluation and measurement in the impact investing field strongly preferred.
- Experience within climate related industries and policy sectors strongly preferred.
- College degree or relevant experience in a related technical field such as business analytics, economics, political science, applied statistics or related field.
- Working proficiency with data analytics tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
- Excellent writing and communication skills, and ability to translate technical information to non-technical audiences.
- You are a self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity, asks thoughtful questions, and can translate unclear situations/business requests into clear, actionable next steps.
- Confidence in ability to learn new data ecosystems and tools quickly.
- Experience translating business needs into technical requirements, and technical analysis into data-driven impactful storytelling.
- Interest in social justice, community development and/or entrepreneurship.
Term
The engagement shall include work conducted between August 1, 2024, and August 1, 2025.
Compensation
As full compensation for the services rendered pursuant to this Agreement, the Company shall pay the contractor at the rate of $40.00-$60.00 USD per hour, up to a maximum of 30 hours per week. Compensation will be paid bi-weekly, 7 days in arrears, upon the receipt of an invoice showing hours worked and deliverables complete. Plus some paid observed by staff holidays.
