The Annie E. Casey Foundation
Services: Impact Measurement, Management & Evaluation
Client Type: Foundation
Geography: United States
The Objective
The Annie E. Casey Foundation engaged Pacific Community Ventures and The Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE) at Duke University to conduct the first comprehensive third-party review of the social impact of its $125M mission investing program known as the Social Investment Program (SI Program).
The Approach
Through document review and stakeholder interviews, Pacific Community Ventures gained an understanding of the SI Program’s history, operations, goals, and social impact. We evaluated the SI Program’s social impact, analyzing the social impact of PRIs and MRIs to individual investees, and the portfolio as a whole.
Using key findings surfaced during the evaluation, Pacific Community Ventures authored, Aligning Capital with Mission: Lessons from the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Social Investment Program, a public report to share lessons and best practices for impact measurement and management with the mission investing and broader impact investing community.
The Results
The evaluation has equipped the Annie E. Casey Foundation to refine its impact measurement and management approach for the SI Program, enabling the foundation to rigorously assess the program’s impact and make more informed investment decisions.
The public report:
- Highlights the significant impact that the Annie E. Casey Foundation has had in improving outcomes for vulnerable children and families across the U.S.
- Offers key lessons and recommendations, serving as a resource on impact measurement for the impact investing community
